Mary E. Peek Endowed Scholarship Fund

Mary E. Peek, a retired educator, taught English for more than 17 years. She retired from North Carolina A&T State University. Prior to her work at N.C. A&T, she was an instructor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a teaching fellow at Bowling Green State University, assistant dean of women and instructor at St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia and teacher at Albert Harris High School in Martinsville, Virginia.

Mrs. Peek has a number of professional achievements that include owning and founding Carolina Attractions, an entertainment promoter for 11 years. Her awards include a full academic/teaching fellowship in the English doctoral program at Bowling Green State University and a full scholarship in graduate social work at Atlanta University.

Mrs. Peek served on the N.C. A&T State University Real Estate Foundation Board of Directors. Other board seats include the Green Hill Art Gallery and African American Atelier Gallery. She is a charter member of the Aggie Heritage Club and holds a life membership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She is a public school volunteer, a member of the Social Justice Committee and the Greensboro Association of Links Inc. She has a daughter and three grandchildren.

Mary E. Peek Endowed Scholarship Criteria

The Mary E. Peek Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to deserving students as determined by the University Scholarship Committee based on the criteria below. In making the selection, this committee will consider such attributes as scholarship, leadership, community service, exceptional talent and financial need. The committee will give special selection consideration and preference to:
• Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Students majoring in English
• Students must submit a 300-word essay explaining future goals and reasons why the applicant should be chosen for this scholarship
• Students must demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities
