John Mack Endowed Scholarship Fund

The John Mack Endowed Scholarship was established through a lead gift initiated by Mrs. Janice Bryant Howroyd, president and CEO of Act One Personnel Services. The goal is to create a $250,000 scholarship endowment to honor Mr. Mack, a man of distinction who dedicated his life to serving so many others.

Throughout his distinguished career, including the past 30 years with the Los Angeles Urban League, Mr. Mack has stood for excellence. Chancellor James C. Renick of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University stated, "This scholarship honors a man of distinction, dignity and leadership. John Mack epitomizes the excellence embodied in 'Aggie Pride.'"

Mr. Mack graduated from high school in Flint, Michigan, and decided to attend North Carolina A&T. Through his work with the Urban League and community, he has received numerous awards and recognition over the duration of his career. The creation of a scholarship endowment in his name honors his alma mater by allowing other youth from Los Angeles and his home state Michigan to have some of the same opportunities that are based upon a great education.

You are invited to join in honoring Mr. Mack. One goal is to seek 10 companies who are willing to provide $5,000 a year, for five years, to culminate in a $250,000 gift to the endowment. Others may wish to contribute more and all will be accepted. Individuals are also welcome to contribute towards the scholarship endowment, as every dollar will make a difference in the life of some young person.

John Mack Endowed Scholarship Fund Criteria

• Students from Los Angeles must be in the top 5% of their class and have at least a 3.5 grade point average. Eligible students must write an essay demonstrating their leadership capabilities.
• Students from Michigan must be in the top 10% of their class and have at least a 3.0 GPA.
• The scholarship will be awarded through the Chancellor’s office at North Carolina A&T State University.
