Gerald L. & Althea Truesdale Endowed Scholarship Fund

Dr. Gerald L. Truesdale graduated from William Penn Senior High School in High Point, North Carolina, and decided to attend Morehouse College in Atlanta where he received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery, hand surgery and burn reconstruction.

In addition to his successful medical profession, Dr. Truesdale has logged in many hours of volunteer service in the community. He served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina A&T University Real Estate Foundation, The Greensboro Music Academy, The Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Greensboro Nations Bank, The Natural Science Center and the Weatherspoon Arts Foundation.

Dr. Truesdale is a member of the Guilford County Medical Society, North Carolina Medical Society, American Medical Association, Young Men's Christian Association, Sigma Pi Phi Beta Epsilon Boule Fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, African American Arts Festival and Old North State Medical Society.

Dr. Truesdale has a number of professional honors and achievements that include the President's Award, Morehouse School of Medicine; Physician's Recognition Award-Medical Association; Outstanding Young Man of America 1989; Who's Who in the Southeast & Southwest 1993; Distinguished Service Award-Bennett College, Distinguished Service Award-A&T University and Physician of the Year-Greensboro Medical Society. He is married and has two children.

The Gerald L. Truesdale Endowed Scholarship Criteria

The scholarship from the Gerald L. Truesdale Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to deserving students as determined by the University Scholarship Committee.

In making the selection, this committee will consider such attributes as scholarship, leadership, community service, exceptional talent and financial need.
