Elmore M. Kennedy Endowed Scholarship
The Elmore M. Kennedy Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by members of the Class of 1953 who were the first graduates of the university to receive commissions as second lieutenants through Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFROTC) Program at North Carolina A&T State University.
The fund is named in honor of then Maj. Elmore M. Kennedy Jr., chosen by the Air Force to serve as the first professor of air science and tactics (PAS&T), later changed to professor of aerospace science (PAS) of the AFROTC Department at the University. Kennedy guided the program through a historical chapter of the university. These first graduates, who respectfully referred to Kennedy as "The Whip," universally credit him with preparing them to meet the challenges which they faced not only as young Air Force officers, but also in their civilian endeavors. Establishing the fund is their way of saying thank you.
