Dr. Harold and Davida Martin Student Excellence Endowed Scholarship Fund

Dr. Harold Martin was elected the 12th chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University. He was the senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of North Carolina where he led the development and implementation of the academic mission of the University, including teaching, research, international programs and student affairs. Prior to joining UNC General Administration, Dr. Martin was the 11th chief administrator and the seventh chancellor of Winston-Salem State University.

Dr. Martin participated in many local citizen initiatives, including Biotechnology in the Piedmont Triad, the ECHO Council, Leadership America, The W-S Millennium Fund, W-S Alliance and the W-S Rotary Club.

Dr. Martin has written and co-authored numerous articles and has made many presentations at national and international conferences. He has served as a consultant to major corporations and companies.

He serves on the boards of the Research Triangle Institute, UNC Press, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC, the Southern Education Foundation, TUCASI, UNC-TV Foundation, the W-S Foundation and the NC A&T University Foundation. Dr. Martin also serves on the SACS Commission on Colleges. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the National Engineering Honor Society; Eta Kappa Nu, the International Honor Society for Electrical Engineers; and Beta Gamma Sigma, the International Honor Society for Business.

He is married to the former Davida Wagner and has two sons, Harold Jr., a graduate of Morehouse College, Harvard Business School and Yale Law School, and Walter, a graduate of Hampton University and a scholar of the University of Maryland Dental School.

First Lady Martin, an alumna of N.C. A&T, was the county attorney for Forsyth County.

Dr. Harold and Davida Martin Student Excellence Endowed Scholarship Fund Criteria

The scholarship from the Dr. Harold and Davida Student Excellence Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to deserving students as determined by the University Scholarship Committee based on the criteria below. In making the selection, this committee will consider such attributes as scholarship, leadership, community service, exceptional talent and financial need. The committee will give special selection consideration and preference to students:
• With a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.2
• Who are United States citizens
• Who are rising juniors or seniors at N.C. A&T 
• Who have demonstrated, with consistency, the ability to pursue tasks to completion
