Dr. Alvin V. Blount Jr. Endowed Scholarship in Academic Affairs
Dr. Alvin V. Blount Jr. graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 1943 with a degree in math and chemistry. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Howard University.
Dr. Blount served as surgeon and acting chief of surgery in the MASH Unit of the United States 8th Army in Korea, where he was captain. For 23 years, he was the chief of surgery for L. Richardson Memorial Hospital. He was the medical director for Guilford Health Care Service and a member of the consulting staff of Moses Cone Hospital.
Dr. Blount served on the foundation board as its second president from 1971-1994, and now has the title of president emeritus. He also served on N.C. A&T’s Board of Visitors, Board of Trustees and the National Aggie Club.
Dr. Blount passed away January 6, 2017, at 94.
The Dr. Alvin V. Blount Jr. Endowed Scholarship Criteria
The scholarship from the Alvin V. Blount Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to deserving students as determined by the University Scholarship Committee. In making the selection, this committee will consider such attributes as scholarship, leadership, community service, exceptional talent and financial need.
