Celessie Avery Caldwell Scholarship Endowment Fund

Celessie Avery Caldwell (formerly Collins), retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System in 1990 after having taught for 32 years in North Carolina and South Carolina. During her tenure, she taught Home Economics at Jefferson High School in York, South Carolina, Acme High School in Acme, North Carolina, and in Charlotte at Plato Price High School, Northwest Junior High and retired from the careers program at Randolph Jr. High.

Since her graduation from N.C. A&T in 1955, Celessie has been an active member of her area alumni chapter, serving as secretary of the chapter and on numerous committees. Her service included first president of Amay James Elementary PTA, trustee and former member of the board of the child care center, member of the Retirees Fellowship and Bereavement Committee at Memorial Presbyterian Church, treasurer of the Plato Price Alumni Association and member of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta.

Her love for N.C. A&T was evident through her long-standing support of athletics and the N.C. A&T Blue and Gold Marching Machine and her continuous giving to the alumni association. She transferred that love for N.C. A&T to her daughters and others in her family who wanted to attend college. She was followed at N.C. A&T by her sister, two daughters, several cousins and four nieces and nephews.

Both Celessie and her husband Walter are honored by the enrollment of their grandson, Brian, as the family's third generation of Aggies and member of the Class of 2004.
