April 28 Summer, Fall Planning Memo

April 28, 2021

Aggie Faculty and Staff,

As the end of the 2020-21 academic year draws near, thank you for your hard work and commitment to our students and for doing your part to keep our campus healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summer Sessions I and II are just around the corner, and plans are rapidly crystalizing for the Fall Semester. Please make note of the directions below, which contain important information for Summer and Fall:

Summer Sessions

Sessions I and II will operate almost wholly online. All summer students will benefit from up to six hours of summer tuition scholarships to encourage students to use their summer to catch up on progress toward graduation that may have lagged during our challenges with COVID-19. Time is limited, however, to take advantage of this opportunity: Registration for Summer Sessions closes April 30.

Please help make our Summer Sessions productive and meaningful experiences for our students by encouraging them to register and get a head start on the 2021-22 school year.

Summer day camps will be back in session this year, though overnight camps will remain on hiatus. Information on specific camps and registration will be forthcoming before the end of the Spring Semester.

Fall Semester Planning

As stated earlier this semester, North Carolina A&T plans to open the Fall 2021 academic semester with a return to mostly normal operations. With Gov. Roy Cooper’s announcement last week that he plans to lift most COVID-19 restrictions by June 1, including limitations on mass gatherings and social distancing, planning for our Fall Semester will reflect those changes.

Faculty and staff will be expected to return to campus for in-person work this fall. While there will be some comparatively minor continued opportunity for flexible work schedules and telework, at the discretion of the supervisor, the majority of A&T employees will be back in their workplaces and tending to their responsibilities on our campuses. Guidance will be forthcoming from Human Resources for the limited flexible work options.

As with Fall 2020, the university will streamline the semester to limit opportunities for COVID-19 to be brought to our campus by individuals traveling to other locations. However, we will observe Fall Break this year, though in-person classes will meet only until Nov. 23.

While students will leave campus at the Thanksgiving break, classes will continue remotely until Dec. 2. That is a key difference between this fall and last, and we need everyone’s help to ensure that students know their classes will last for another week beyond Thanksgiving. Fall Commencement is scheduled for Dec. 11.

Other key dates for Fall 2021 include:

  • Faculty/Staff Institute will take place Aug. 13.
  • Residence halls will open Aug. 14 for new students and Aug. 16 for continuing students. The halls will operate at full capacity.
  • Classes will begin Aug. 18, largely in person but including options for online courses.
  • Residence halls will close Nov. 23.

Please continue to monitor your university email account and the A&T website for further information as it becomes available, and visit the Fall 2021 Aggies Care website regularly for updates regarding the 2021 academic year.
