How is the North Carolina A&T Teacher Residency Program Unique?

The North Carolina A&T Teacher Residency program selects and prepares individuals who have undergraduate degrees from accredited four-year institutions with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and who desire to attain a North Carolina teaching license. Unlike the traditional educator preparation program, the Teacher Residency program does the following:

  • Assists candidates with earning a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in mathematics, chemistry, biology, elementary education, or special education.
  • Places the candidate in an elementary, middle, or high school on a full-time basis from August to June during the academic year.
  • Pays each candidate a stipend while working in the specified school.
  • Pairs the candidate with a highly qualified mentor classroom teacher who serves as a clinical educator and an instructional coach who provides ongoing support.
