Priority 4: Supporting Alumni K-12 Classroom Teachers

The College of Education at North Carolina A&T State University is committed to supporting K-12 classroom teachers in our communities, especially our first- and second-year classroom teachers who graduated from our teacher education programs. New classroom teachers generally find themselves struggling to make ends meet in a new school environment, and they experience the harsh reality that many K-12 classroom teachers must purchase their own supplies throughout the academic year to engage their students in the ways in which faculty in the College of Education prepared them. These purchases often include math manipulatives, daily school supplies (e.g., cleaning supplies, staples, paper clips), small classroom instructional materials (e.g., pens, pencils, crayons, construction paper, rulers), and large instructional tools (e.g., calculators, LCD projectors, computer software). 

Moreover, faculty in the College of Education understand that new classroom teachers need mentoring and professional development so they will continue to develop their knowledge, skills, and dispositions as educational leaders. Providing new classroom teachers with a sustained level of support throughout the calendar year is critically important to the success not only of the teacher but also of the K-12 student. Given this reality, the College of Education has developed an “Aggie New Teacher Induction and Professional Development” program that supports K-12 teachers in their goals to positively impact their students’ lives through quality instruction and rigorous engagement.

A gift of $500.00 to $100,000.00 to the College of Education Gift-in-Kind Fund can guarantee that the College of Education can support K-12 classroom teachers, particularly our alumni who are new classroom teachers. Your gift may support our new classroom teachers in one or more of the following ways:

      1. A “New Teacher Start Up” Package for all new alumni classroom teachers so they can purchase supplies that outfit their new classroom ($500.00 to $1,000.00 per year)
      2. An annual Induction Support and Professional Development Conference where new classroom teachers return to campus for a three-day professional meeting facilitated by seasoned K-12 classroom teachers and experienced faculty and focused on skills development in the areas of classroom management, state-of-the-art technological integration, and engaging families and communities ($10,000.00 to $50,000.00 per year)
      3. Infrastructure support to hire additional staff to assist with direct communication, engagement, and workshops for new classroom teachers ($50,000.00 to $100,000.00 per year)
