Peer Academic Leader Program

For continuous retention efforts for the university, the Peer Academic Leader program plans and designs various programs that primarily target the academic needs of students in the residential community. The programs will support, motivate, and encourage residents toward their academic, personal, and professional goals.

Goals & Objectives

  • Provide an environment that encourages active involvement in the academic life of the campus.
  • Promote and develop an environment that is conducive to academic achievement and endeavors.
  • Provide opportunities for students to understand the value of academic challenge and success.
  • Provide opportunities for students to become actively involved on campus and/or in the community.
  • Create an atmosphere of campus pride and connection.
  • Provide an atmosphere within the residence hall that fosters the development of community-based on consideration, respect, and appreciation of all individuals.
  • Provide programming for students within the Residence Halls.

Peer Academic Leaders Sub-Committees


Sistah Circle

  • Sistah Circle sub-committee is devoted to providing a system of consistent support and motivation to effectively manage social development and identity in females. Students are empowered to create friendships and become strong young women while increasing knowledge and gaining a sense of self. Students meet monthly for “Girl Talk” sessions discussing the transition to womanhood and developing an appreciation for

M.A.L.E.S. (Men Achieving Leadership, Excellence and Success)

  • M.A.L.E.S. sub-committee is designed to create an atmosphere of excellence by enhancing self-respect and confidence for male students. This is accomplished through peer mentoring, dialogue, unity, and enthusiasm. Young men attend monthly group meetings, tutoring sessions, and academic development training programs. Students will receive an uplifting sense of brotherhood as well as motivation and skills to excel within the classroom.

Rising Stars

  • Rising Stars sub-committee is designed for continuing students who are academically at risk. Programs are established to equip students with the tools to be successful. Emphasis is placed on study skills, satisfactory academic progress, and collaborative and consistent studying.


Aggie Buck Redemption/Aggie Pups

  • Redeem your Aggie Bucks. Get Aggie Bucks for receiving A’s on papers, tests, and quizzes. Aggie Redemption Day will be held at the end of the Fall and Spring Semester. You will be able to select prizes for your efforts.
  • The Peer Academic Leaders work on these committees which provide programs specifically for these populations of students!
