Van-Anthoney Hall

Van-Anthoney Hall holds a PhD in Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana – Champaign, a Master of Music in voice & opera performance from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Arts in vocal performance from N.C. A&T State University. He has performed with Utah Festival Opera, Houston Ebony Opera, Dallas Opera, Deep Ellum Opera, as well as American Singers’ Opera Project. Van’s opera roles include Bassilio (Marriage of Figaro), The Magician (The Consul - Menotti), Sportin Life (Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess), Leon (Signor Deluso by Thomas Pasateri), Fenton (The Merry Wives of Windsor- Nicolai), Caliban (Tempest – Lee Hoiby), Monastatos (Mozart’s The Magic Flute) Ferrando (Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte) and Fenton (Verdi’s Falstaff). 

He is a former Arts Ambassador of Greater Baton Rouge, LA and an artist grant recipient from The Louisiana Division of the Arts. In addition to classical music, Van has performed throughout the Midwest with the Jazz trio Panache. He also performs with Vanism; a jazz chamber ensemble. Vanism performed with Artist for Amnesty at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, jazz recital performances in Paris, Neuilly, Bordeaux and Reims, France as well as the Netherlands (2012) and at the International Conference on Arts and Humanities in Hawaii (2013). Areas of scholarly research include Black Aesthetics, Aesthetic Education and Curriculum Theory. Past research and recital presentations includes In the Words of Langston an Aesthetic Language of Social Justice presented at the National Association on African American Studies & Affiliates 2012 & 2013. 

Dr. Hall is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and currently teaches Applied Voice, Voice Pedagogy, Psychology of Music, Independent Study – (An introduction to Qualitative Research in the Arts), and Opera Workshop at N.C. A&T State University. He will present his current research/performance study Towards An Ankh Aesthetic at the National Council of Black Studies Conference in Houston, TX, . March 8-12 2017.
