Agricultural Technology Unit

The goal of the Agricultural CAES Technology Unit (ATU) in the College Of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences is to provide up to date information technology solutions, and services in order to support and facilitate the college’s academic, administrative, research, extension and outreach needs. The services and solutions provided ensure that the college’s information technology infrastructure is reliable, secure, cost effective, and meets the strategic goals of the college and is consistent with the expectations of the University. ATU provides the leadership necessary to ensure that the CAES optimizes current and future investments in technology.

Desktop Support

ATU provides support for computers purchased by the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences meeting the specifications in the computer replacement program.

All such computers, desktops and laptops, will be inventoried by the College with an ATU Inventory Tag. ATU staff should be notified immediately when computer purchases arrive so the university image and software can be installed.

Desktop Support covers hardware and software troubleshooting on Windows 7, 8 and 10 platforms. The type of Desktop support includes the following:

  • Configuration & Setup
  • Installation
  • Troubleshooting
  • Repair

Note: ATU will offer limited support to Faculty, Staff and Students for personally owned devices. ATU can assist with the setup of NCAT wireless internet and offer free troubleshooting advice, but the staff will not troubleshoot any personal device.

ATU Support should be requested using the online system. Please submit requests no later than five business days before the services are needed. To use the system, visit Aggie Help (Cherwell) to enter a ticket.

Computer Replacement program

The computers in the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences are scheduled to be replaced on a three year rotation cycle.

Student use of Computer Labs:

In order for students to gain access to computers in CAES, students will use their university supplied username and password. The format is: NCAT\<username> and their gmail mail password.

New Hires

In order for new hires to have access to computers in the ag.ncat.edu domain, the following must be in order: ISAF cleared HR; UserID and Banner ID assigned by HR and a helpdesk ticket requesting account creation must be submitted within 5 days of the employment start date.

Separations

Persons no longer employed by the university should not have access to computer services. Department Chairpersons should notify ATU in writing of the separation date of employees who have been separated.

Adjunct Faculty

Adjunct and part-time faculty will be provided access to computing services during their employment period only. Access will be terminated at the end of the academic year unless ATU is notified in advance.
