Federal Perkins Loan

The Federal Perkins Loan Program is a low-interest (5%), long-term loan made through North Carolina A&T State University to assist needy undergraduate and graduate students.

Students must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Federal Perkins Loan:

  • Meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress;
  • A U.S. Citizen or  Eligible Non-Citizen ;
  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree seeking student ;
  • Have a unmet need; and
  • May be at least less than half-time or higher.

Your loan Information will be submitted to the National Student Loan Data Services (NSLDS) and will be accessible to authorized agencies, lenders, and institutions.

Award Amount:
A student may be awarded up to $4,000 per academic year for undergraduate and $4,000 for graduate. Awarding is based on funding the current year.

Each student must complete a master promissory note and complete an entrance counseling before funds are disbursed to the student’s account. Entrance Counseling sessions are completed with each awarded student along with completing the Master Promissory Note.

Renewal of the Federal Perkins Program is based upon availability of funds.
**Eligible students must have an unmet need as determine by federal guidelines and cannot be over awarded or over budget.  The Office of Student Financial Aid reserves the right to reduce or cancel the grant if student becomes ineligible.**
