About University Studies
Beginning in spring, 2002, North Carolina A&T State University undertook a comprehensive review and revision of its General Education program as part of the
FUTURES strategic vision initiative. The General Education Review Committee, with faculty representatives from each of the Colleges and Schools, oversaw the review process, developing recommendations for revising the General Education program and implementing changes in the General Education curriculum.
A new General Education structure and curriculum - University Studies - was implemented in fall, 2006 and the first University Studies Dean, Dr. Joseph Graves, Jr., was hired in August, 2005 to lead and manage the University Studies program. The University Studies curriculum is the heart and soul of the university's academic mission to prepare undergraduate students for careers in a dynamic, global, knowledge-based economy that demands life-long learning.
From the start the aim of the University Studies Committee was to make the review/revision/implementation process as transparent as possible, with ongoing feedback from faculty members and administrators campus-wide helping to inform program design and policies. The resources available here are intended to inform, educate, and provide a historical record of the review, revision, and implementation process.
