Beverly Wallace, Director
Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science

Beverly Wallace has served as the director of the Upward Bound Program for 15 years. She got her start at Upward Bound over 30 years ago when she served as the Program Coordinator. Three years later she was promoted to Program Counselor and served in that position until 1992, when she became the director. Her most recent accomplishment is the acquisition of our newly funded Upward Bound Math and Science Program. She is responsible for organizing, coordinating and directing staff efforts in carrying out the goals and objectives of both programs.

Ms. Wallace has a B. S. degree from North Carolina A&T State University and a M. S. degree from North Carolina Central University. TRIO affiliations include active membership in the North Carolina Council of Educational Opportunity Programs (NCCEOP) and the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP). She is a past president of NCCEOP where she served two terms from 1999 to 2003. With SAEOPP she is a past member of the Board of Directors and has co-chaired several committees. Most recently she served as the co-chair of the 2006 SAEOPP Annual Conference that was held here in Greensboro. In the community she is a member of the Greensboro Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.


Angela Denise Ford Wilson, Program Counselor

Angela Denise Ford Wilson is the Program Counselor for the Upward Bound Program. She has served in this position since May of 1998 (9+ years). Angela received her Bachelor of Science degree in English Education and her Master of Science degree in Counselor Education, both from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and has completed Ph.D. studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Angela is also an Academic Lecturer and the Dean of Students for North State School of Theology. Angela is a former Upward Bound Participant and attributes her commitment and dedication to the program to the much appreciated assistance the program provided during her high school and postsecondary matriculation.


Coradene Rutledge, Administrative Support Associate

Coradene Rutledge serves as the Administrative Support Associate with Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science. She has been with Upward Bound for 5-1/2 years. She is responsible for processing stipends, maintaining our student database, preparing mailings for student and parents, preparing PowerPoint presentations for co-workers, monthly reports and other office duties. Mrs. Rutledge assists with tracking Upward Bound graduates and submitting annual reports to the Department of Education. She enjoys taking pictures of our students and various program events. She is also available to provide notary services to our students as needed.

Mrs. Rutledge has Associate Degrees from Rutledge College with a major in Computer Science and Brookstone College with a major in High-Tech Secretarial Service. She has received further training at North Carolina A&T State University in Microsoft Office Suite, Publisher and computer fundamentals. Her affiliations include the National Notary Association.


E. Albertina McGirt, Administrative Support Associate

E. Albertina McGirt has provided services to Upward Bound as its Program Assistant since August 1992. She is responsible for all aspects of office management. A favored quote of McGirt is “Be the change you want to see in the world.” (Gandhi, M.)

Ms. McGirt attended Bennett College and studied Home Economics Education; Guilford Technical Community College for coursework in computers, business writing, and Microsoft Office; and received certifications from NC A&T State University for completion of FRS, Banner Financial, and other staff development programs.

This civil servant has devoted her time, talents and creativity to the TRIO state association--the North Carolina Council of Educational Opportunity Programs where she serves as a member and past chair of two committees; Scholars’ Bowl and Office Professionals. She was elected policy platform chair--district 17 for the State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC), the Scholarship committee and functions as a MAT lobbyist and member of the Career Banding Committee. At A&T McGirt is an Aggie Diplomat, member and past president of the University Staff Senate, past member of the Teaching Fellows Advisory Board and the Ron McNair Symposium Committee. Other university involvements include participation on search committees; planning university related retreats, town hall meetings and other programs. Her community affiliations include: the Greensboro Involvement Council; Democratic Women; Church Women United; Status and Role of Women, the United Methodist Women’s organizations, and Lay Speaker.


Kevin L. Maxwell, Academic Coordinator

Kevin L. Maxwell is the Academic Coordinator for the Upward Bound Program. He has served in this position since June 9, 2003. Mr. Maxwell, an Upward Bound Program alumnus, handles the academic component of both programs. His duties include recruitment of prospective participants, working with High School counselors, teachers, and families, maintenance of academic records and evaluation of student progress. This position has proven challenging and rewarding for him.

Mr. Maxwell is a 1993 graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a degree in Special Education and a minor in History. He received his MA.ED in Special Education with a concentration in Behavior Disorders from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Presently, he is completing Doctoral Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He will receive his PhD in Specialized Education Services.

Mr. Maxwell is bivocational. In addition to working with our Program, he is also he Pastor of Thacker's Memorial UHC in Brown Summit, North Carolina. Mr. Maxwell is a member of the North Carolina Council of Educational Opportunities Programs, Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunities Programs, North Carolina Association of Educators; Council for Exceptional Children Advisory Board, Habitat for Humanities of Greensboro Advisory Board, Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program Advisory Board, Greensboro Coalition Against Gangs in Schools and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He also serves as a mentor for North Carolina A&T State University.


Tijuana L. Faulks, Program Counselor
Upward Bound Math and Science Program Tijuana L. Faulks

Tijuana Faulks is the Program Counselor for the new Upward Bound Math and Science Program. Tijuana has a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health/Community Health Education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She is responsible for a number of activities and services related to the counseling component of the Math and Science Program. She is a member of North Carolina Counseling Association, North Carolina Rehabilitation Counseling Association and National Rehabilitation Association.
