The Upward Bound Mothers’ Group was organized in 1992. That group was reorganized in 1993 and was renamed the Upward Bound Parents’ Council. The Parents’ Council was established to provide additional support (financial, social and spiritual) to the Upward Bound Program, its participants and their parents. It is the official organization for persons whose sons and daughters participate in the Upward Bound Program. It is also a major vehicle to encourage parents to become involved in the lives of their children as they participate in the Upward Bound Program. The purpose of the Parents’ Council is to:
- Serve as an advisory to the Upward Bound Program
- Provide scholarships to eligible seniors
- Provide a gift of at least $25.00 in value to each active graduating senior
- Provide financial assistance to the program for special activities
- Provide assistance when needed at Upward Bound functions
- Sponsor at least one community service project for Upward Bound participants
- Sponsor fundraising projects
- Sponsor at least one social outing for Upward Bound parents, participants and staff
The Director of the Upward Bound Program serves as the liaison and advisor to the Parents’ Council. The officers provide leadership and coordinate activities.
