Important
The NC A&T Teaching Fellows seminars are held on Tuesday Evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in a location determine by the director. Seminars are a NC A&T Teaching Fellows requirement. Any Teaching Fellow who misses any required activity, without an excused absence from the director, and/or does not complete their required substitution may not receive their scholarship funds the following semester. This also affects students who are habitually late. All activities listed on the seminar schedule are required events. Office Number: 334-7175 or shoard@ncat.edu or stop by the office Edward B. Fort (IRC Building) room 17.

Ed Scholars must participate in required seminars each semester, failure to do so will result in funds being withheld the following semester or you will not be eligible to reapply for your scholarship the next academic year.

Community Service Team Projects
Teaching Fellows and Education Scholars will select a community service project team. Each student must have an active roll in the project. When each team presents the outcome of their effort everyone must participate. Teams will evaluate the presentations and each member will evaluate each other. Failure to be a contributing member of the team project may place a Teaching Fellow or Ed Scholar’s scholarship funds in jeopardy.

Lyceums
Teaching Fellows are to attend two cultural events each semester, i.e. campus lectures or theatrical performances and write a reflection that must be submitted to the director. The deadline for the typed reflections is the closeout seminar each semester.

North Carolina Teaching Fellows Summer Activities
Freshmen – Discovery Tour 2008 - May 17-24, 2008
Sophomores – Junior Enrichment – Summer 2008

Senior Conference – July 18-20, 2008 – site Lenoir-Rhyne College

Failure to attend your spring/summer activities without submitting a NC Teaching Fellows Summer Enrichment Request Form and receiving written approval from Gladys Graves or Melissa Churchwell, will result in your scholarship funds being withheld the following semester. Arriving late or leaving early from your summer activities without written approval from Gladys Graves or Melissa Churchwell could also result in your scholarship funds being withheld the following semester. In order to make-up a spring/summer requirement you will have to pay the activity fee. If you have any questions or concerns about the summer activities contact Mrs. Hoard immediately, Gladys Graves or Melissa Churchwell (919-781-6833, the Raleigh office).

Remember to check your email regularly and stop by the Teaching Fellows office to check-in with the director.

Program Attendance & Requirements Policy

Attendance Policy: Upon signing the promissory note with the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Commission, Fellows have pledged to fulfill the academic requirements necessary for certification as a teacher in North Carolina. Award recipients have also agreed to meet all program requirements unique to the Teaching Fellows Program at NCA&TSU. The University is totally committed to preparing educators of excellence and, thereby, holds NCA&TSU Teaching Fellows to a high standard of participation in both curricular and extra-curricular programs.

DEFAULTING ON THE SCHOLARSHIP/LOAN

ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED AT ALL NC A&T TEACHING FELLOWS ACTIVITES LISTED ON THE SEMINAR SCHEDULE UNLESS INDICATED THE ACTIVITY IS OPTIONAL.

Failure to attend required activities, complete program requirements, and required substitutions, will result in scholarship monies being withheld the following semester. If it is the fellow’s last semester the scholarship will be called in because the student is in default of the scholarship agreement. Students who are habitually late will also put their scholarship in jeopardy.

NC A&T Teaching Fellows who have a conflict; will be late; or must leave early during a required activity, must contact the Director prior to the event to discuss their situation. Fellows who miss a required activity must complete a substitution or a written case study provided by the A&T Teaching Fellows Director. NC A&T Teaching Fellows cannot pick the substitution for the missed required activity.

WORK, ORGANIZATIONAL MEETINGS, UNEXPECTED GUEST, EXTRACURRICULAR RESPONSIBLITIES, ETC…. are not an excuse for missing, coming late, or leaving any required Teaching Fellows activity early. Students must discuss their situation with the director before the scheduled activity, not during the activity.

CLASSES are not an excuse for missing, coming late or leaving ANY required Teaching Fellows activity early, unless the course is required for graduation. If the course is not required for graduation the student must discuss the course and alternatives with the director, whose decision is final.

Clear communication and follow through will insure that no NC A&T Teaching Fellows default on their scholarship/loan.
