How long does a student have before declaring a major?

A student is required to declare a major at or before completing forty-five (45) semester hours.

How many hours do you have to take per semester?

The normal course load is 15 to 16 credit hours per semester.  An undergraduate student must carry a minimum of 12 credit hours in order to be considered a full-time student.  In order to continue receiving financial aid, full time students must earn 24 hours each academic year.

What are the basic courses that freshmen are required to take?

All freshmen are required to take 6 hours of English (English 100 and 101), 3 semester hours of African/American Studies, and 3 semester hours of Global Studies.  Most majors require you to take at least 6 hours of math and science.  Your major will determine what type of math and science you will have to take.

What is the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy?

The Higher Education Act requires financial aid recipients to make a satisfactory progress toward a degree in order to continue receiving such assistance.   Satisfactory academic progress means that students are expected to maintain no less than the following:

The Financial Aid Office will review the academic progress of each student receiving aid at the BEGINNING of each academic year.  The student must average 12 completed credit hours for each semester that he or she receives financial assistance.

Can a student have a double major at A&T?

An applicant is initially accepted into one major, however a student may later declare a double major.  Students who desire to obtain a double major must file a double major form in the Office of the Registrar.  Double major students which involves two (2) departments/schools must satisfy major requirements for each.  Details for establishing such academic programs should be discussed with the student's faculty advisor.

How long do classes last?

Classes can last from 50 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes depending on the day of the week.  Some labs can last from 2 to 4 hours.

What is the total cost to attend North Carolina A&T State University?

The cost for the 2000-2001Academic Year (per semester) for a full time student is as follows:

Are academic scholarships available?

Most scholarships are awarded in the academic departments.  Students with high achievement test scores and grade point averages are automatically considered.   Students are encouraged to contact specific departments for details.

How do I apply for Financial Aid?

A&T requires that you fill out the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid).  Students may complete the FAFSA on the web.  The signature page must be completed.

How many students attend A&T?

Approximately 7,500 students attend the University.

Do you have co-ed dorms on campus?

No, but we do have co-ed visitation.  Co-ed visitation is the time period when you are allowed male/female visitors in your room.

Do you have fraternities and sororities?

All eight of the nationally recognized Greek organizations are represented on A&T's campus.  There are four fraternities, they are as follows:  Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, and Phi Beta Sigma; and four sororities:  Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta.  Also A&T has approximately 190 academic and social organizations.
