COMPUTER ASSISTED LEARNING LABORATORY (CALL)

The School of Education's Computer Assisted Learning Laboratory (CALL) is designed to help students develop and improve basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.  The Laboratory utilizes a computer software program developed by Educational Testing Service entitled "Learning Plus".  Learning Plus is an extraordinarily effective learning software program which contains three basic components:   (1) diagnostic, (2) tutorial, and (3) assessment.  The diagnostic component evaluated the students' strengths and weakness in reading, writing, and mathematics and prescribes a specific tutorial of programmed instruction for each area based upon the diagnostic assessment.  The writing component utilizes the expertise of a specialist to review and evaluate the students' writing activities.  Resultant data are fed back into the program for evaluation and assessment.  Upon completion of the tutorial, the student can take an end of program assessment test to determine actual gains in reading, writing, and/or mathematics.  Upon completion of the computer assisted instructional program, students are better prepared to be more successful in college work.

The CALL Laboratory is located in Room 206 Hodgin Hall and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.  For additional information, please contact Dr. Larry Powers, School of Education, Hodgin Hall, Room 109, 336.334.7865 or email him at powersl@ncat.edu.
