Handbook Task Force:
Charge The Faculty Handbook is an employee handbook that creates a standard of behavior. Its importance lies in the fact that some courts tend that it is a binding contract. It contains vital information related to institutional governance, administrative and faculty hiring procedures, administrative and faculty evaluation process, faculty expectations, faculty grievance process, etc. As such, a Faculty Handbook Task Force has been charged with thoroughly reviewing all aspects of the current faculty handbook and to update its content, where appropriate, and incorporate any changes to the institutions governance, policies, and procedures. The Task Force will meet weekly and keep both the Faculty Senate and Faculty Forum abreast of its progress. Process The Task Force will be responsible for providing an update to department chairpersons, deans, and faculty members. Dialogue and input from faculty and administrators is encouraged via departmental and school/college meetings, web site and chat rooms will be established to enhance ownership and representation from the key stakeholders (faculty and administrators) who will be directly affected by the handbooks revision. After a review of both written and oral responses to Task Force members, a final draft will be sent to the Faculty Senate, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, University Attorney, and the Faculty Forum for a final vote. Revision of University Faculty Handbook In December of 1998, Vice-Chancellor Harold Martin formulated a task force to review and revise the Universitys current Faculty Handbook. Throughout the Spring 1999 semester the task force met weekly, resulting in the production of draft documents for two sections of the Faculty Handbook: Governance Structure and Promotion and Tenure. Adhering to our review process, we are posting these documents on the web site for your review and comments. Please respond to the questions below utilizing the online form.
