       GEMS

Talent-21 GEMS was established to provide incentive and qualitative support to scholars in Math, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics to those that have potential of becoming Talent-21 Scholars. The program is an incentive building model to assist students that require extra effort and attention in achieving their educational goals.

Talent-21 GEMS is the second link in the Talent-21 Scholars program. The GEMS link will provide support to students with less than 3.0 GPA and have demonstrated potential to improve grades and to continue on to graduate studies in their chosen major.

The program components will include the following areas:

  •  Mentorship support
  • Curriculum Enrichment Seminars
  • Professional Development Workshops
  • Career Planning Sessions
  • Organized Pre-College activity with Greensboro Children's Museum

Departmental faculty will be asked to identify potential GEMS for the Talent-21 Office. Applications will be submitted and reviewed by the Talent-21 Advisory committee. Participants will be selected after personal interviews. Upon selection, the GEMS participant will be notified of award amounts and the options of accepting or declining offer. Once offer is accepted, the student will be required to attend an orientation that will fully describe expectations of the Talent-21 program.

GEMS students will be assessed each semester and successful program cooperation and project completion will determine continued support.

A recognition activity will be scheduled at the end of each session and honors will be awarded to the top three students in the program.
