Scholarship Criteria for School of Technology

Scholarships are awarded to School of Technology students demonstrating academic excellence and good character who are willing to accept the challenge of being involved in School of Technology programs and activities.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund Scholarships: Scholarships will only be awarded per semester based on available funding. Thurgood Marshall College Fund scholarships are not awarded directly to students. Scholarships are awarded to the student via the member college or university to which the student has been accepted.

Students interested in applying for a TMCF Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • A citizen of the United States of America

  • Full-time student pursuing a degree in any discipline at one of the 47 TMCF "member schools"

  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and community service with a high school GPA of not less than 3.0; a

  • combined verbal/math score of 1650 or more on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or a score of 25 or higher on the American College Testing (ACT) examination

  • Recommended by their high school as academically exceptional or outstanding in the creative and performing arts

  • Demonstrated financial need and maintain not less than 3.0 GPA each year for the duration of the scholarship

Potential applicants should note that TMCF scholarships:

  • Are merit-based

  • Are awarded to students with a demonstrated financial need

  • May be awarded to any class student, not just incoming freshmen

  • May be renewable but renewal is not guaranteed

  • Are restricted to payment of tuition, room and board, books and fees

  • Average approximately $2200 per student per semester

  • Are awarded through the member schools, not directly to students from TMCF - Students interested in a TMCF scholarship should contact a scholarship coordinator at any member college or university and apply through the school.

North Carolina Louis Stokes for Minority Participation:  As an alliance member of the NC-LSAMP Program, and funded by the National Science Foundation, North Carolina A & T State University receives fund to support students in math, science, engineering, and technology.   These funds are need based and are awarded to students who have demonstrated financial hardships and are in good academic standings.  Specific criteria for awarding these funds to students in the School of Technology are as follows:

  • Be a full-time U.S. citizen or permanent resident;

  • Be in good standing at the university and possess a cumulative GPA of no less than 2.5. 

  • Apply for financial aid with the university’s Office of financial Aid

  • Demonstrate a substantial financial need.

  • Agree to participate in all Alliance and School of Technology activities, 9 research symposiums, lecture series, etc. that are sponsored on campus. Student must also accept invitations to participate in expense-paid Alliance activities off campus.

  • Complete a scholarship application in the office of Associate Dean and return it by the submittal deadline. 

Quaker Oats Company:  The Quaker Oats Company has made available a $2500.00 Scholarship that will be awarded to an Occupational Safety and Health or Manufacturing Major within the School of Technology.

  • Be a fulltime, US Citizen or permanent resident; 

  • Be a sophomore or junior in good standing with a cumulative grade point average 3.25 or higher; 

  • Give priority to accepting a summer internship with Quaker Oats should one be offered; and 

  • Demonstrate leadership skills and involvement in extra-curricular activities 

Procedure:

  • Two Letters of recommendations (one from a technology instructor and one from an instructor outside of the School of Technology); 

  • An update resume; 

  • A one to two page biographical sketch (double spaced) which highlights your background and details your future goals for the next five years after graduation; and 

  • An official university transcript; 

  • A completed application packet containing the above must submitted to the Sot Associate Dean’s Office

Ford Motor Scholarship

  • Should be full time, US citizens or permanent residents
  • Be at least a first semester sophomore with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25
  • Expected to give first priority for a summer internship to the Ford Motor Company

 

Renewal of a scholarship award for a subsequent year(s) will be based on the following criteria.

  • Student maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 while completing 30 credit hours during the past academic year;
  • Student participated in an internship during the past summer with the Ford Motor Company (assuming an internship offer had been made).
  • Student must be a Manufacturing major or Electronics major within the School of Technology

Application Procedure: For Ford Motor

  • Two letters of recommendation (one technology instructor an one from a instructor out side of the School of Technology.) 

  • An updated resume;

  • A one to two page biographical sketch (double spaced) which highlights your background and details your future goals for the next five years after graduation, and

  • An official university

  • A completed application packet containing the above must be submitted to the Associate Dean’s Office 2011 Smith Hall

Samuel C. And Angeline D. Smith Scholarship Endowment Fund :This scholarship is awarded to full-time student s majoring in Technology or Education.  Selected students must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.  Each student must submit an application and two (2) letter of recommendation from his/her department head, minister, or a community leader who is familiar with the applicant’s accomplishments and character.

A.W. Williams Memorial Scholarship: the Williams Surviving Family-Jacqueline, Joe, Keith and other siblings support The Andrew Williams Scholarship Awards.

The Andrew Williams Scholarship consists of two (2) $250 awards totaling $500.  The scholarships are awarded to two Manufacturing Systems students and are applied to the student’s account.

Wal-Mart Competitive Edge Scholarships:  This scholarship is awarded to full-time incoming freshmen majoring in one of the specified technology based areas.  Each student must be a citizen of the country in which the university is located.  Selected students must demonstrate high academic achievement:  (ACT Score of 27 or above, SAT Score of 1100 or above, High School GPA of 3.5 or above, High School rank-90% or above).  Selected students must maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the program.  Recipients must apply for financial assistance, demonstrate leadership and community service.

Computer Science, Mathematics Engineering, and Technology Scholarship Program (CSMET): The following funding guideline governs student selection and participation. Citizens or Nationals, Junior or Senior, Enrolled Full-time, minimum 3.0 GPA, completed FAFSA Form.  Have financial need.  The CSMET Award provides funding up  $3125 per student, per academic year. The award is for juniors and seniors, current and transfers students, in the following SMET disciplines:
Graphic Communications, Electronics, Manufacturing, and Construction Management

Dow-United Technologies:  To qualify for this scholarship a student must major in either manufacturing or electronics technology.  Additionally, applicants must be full-time students with sophomore, junior, or senior status.  Scholarships are awarded in the fall and spring semesters.  Scholarship awards range from $500 to $2000 and are dependent upon recipients overall GPA.
