Greensboro, NC: Superbrand Dairy Plant, a subsidiary
of Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. has contributed $1,500 to North Carolina A&T
State University School of Agriculture as part of its 14th annual Good
Citizenship Awards program. The award was announced by Grant Smith, Plant
Manager, Superbrand, Inc.
"It's our privilege to give back to the organizations and individuals
who give so much to the community every day," said Smith. "Their
commitment to community service is an inspiration to us all."
The Davis family, founders of Winn-Dixie, established the Good Citizenship
Awards 14 years ago in an effort to recognize the often unheralded efforts
of those who give to young people and to the community at large. Financial
contributions are made on behalf of the Davis family and Winn-Dixie Stores
through their respective foundations. In all, Winn-Dixie will award approximately
$6 million to deserving organizations in the Southeastern and Southwestern
United States.
Dr. Daniel D. Godfrey, dean of the NC A&T School of Agriculture, said
that the funds will be used to further student recruitment and retention
activities. "We are grateful for the generosity expressed by Winn-Dixie
and especially Superbrand Dairy as represented by Mr. Grant Smith,"
said Godfrey. "The working educational relationship we enjoy with
Superbrand is a very positive component of our University."
Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. is one of the nation's largest supermarket retailers,
with 1,180 stores in 14 Southeastern, Southwestern and Midwestern states.
Winn Dixie Charlotte operates 181 stores in North Carolina, South Carolina,
Tennessee and Georgia.
