Greensboro, NC: Valorie F. McAlpin, director of agricultural
communications at North Carolina A&T State University, recently completed
all requirements for a doctorate degree in adult education at North Carolina
State University.
McAlpin's dissertation research, "The Effects of Selected Factors
on the Academic Performance of On-line and Face-to-face Students,"
found that delivery strategy made no difference in the academic performance
of those college students taking courses via the computer versus the traditional
classroom.
With ten years of experience in distance learning and advanced educational
technology, McAlpin plans to work closely with A&T faculty to plan
and implement Internet-based courses for both on- and off-campus students.
She is currently a member of the program panel for ADEC, an international
distance learning consortium comprised of 50 land-grant institutions, as
well as international colleges and universities. She is also a former president
of the national organization, Agricultural Communicators in Education.
McAlpin and her husband, Phillip, have two children, Leigh, age 14, and
Jason, age 12.
