Greensboro, NC: Drs. Rosa Purcell, Carolyn Turner and Geraldine Ray, and Jane Walker represented North Carolina A&T State University at the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) 89th Annual Meeting and Exposition.


The theme of the conference was "Invest in Families: Integrated Relationships."


At the conference, Walker and Turner presented "Internship Success: Student Professional Development and Career Placement," a project directed toward developing a model internship program to be shared with other universities.


Also at the conference, A&T's Department of Human Environment and Family Sciences was presented with a certificate of accreditation, and department chairperson Purcell made a presentation during a session entitled, "Teaching the Integrative Nature of Family and Consumer Sciences."


Purcell's presentation focused on preparing universities for accreditation. Purcell was also appointed to the AAFCS's Public Affairs Committee.


Approximately 1,500 professionals in the family and consumer sciences and related fields attended the meeting.


Founded in 1909, AAFCS is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of individual and family life through programs that educate, influence public policy, disseminate information and publish research findings.
