Leadership Development

“As we near the end of the twentieth century, we are beginning to see that traditional autocratic and hierarchical modes of leadership are slowly yielding to a newer model-one that attempts to simultaneously enhance the persona; growth of individuals and improve the quality and caring of many institutions through a combination of teamwork and community personal involvement in decision making, and ethical and caring behavior.” Larry Spears, CEO of the Greenleaf Center

Each academic year begins with leadership development and teambuilding. The development of individuals who function effectively, solve problems and lead others to meet objectives is the focus of these activities. Faculty and staff have conducted teambuilding activities with an emphasis on trust, personal strength, self awareness and the development of interpersonal skills. The ultimate goal of these activities is to instill in these future teachers, the ability to recognize a voice in the community; step forward to serve and coalesce others to lead.

NC A&T Teaching Fellows nominate a student to represent their class on the Student Advisory Committee which meet twice a month with the director to discuss issues and plan activities. These students are also members of the NC A&T Teaching Fellows Advisory Committee. Two students are also selected by the director to sit on the Dean of the School of Education Student Advisory Committee.

Despite leadership opportunities within the program students have been presidents of the Student Government Association, Honor Societies, academic and social organizations.
