The grant-funded project: This project tested the claim of SuccessMaker – a computer-assisted math and reading tutorial courseware used in many Guilford County Schools – that it can predict with 80 percent accuracy that if a child reaches a certain level on the tutorial in either reading or math, then he or she will pass the end-of-grade test.
The expected results: The Action Research Study validated the claim, information that researcher Fred Brown of the Washington faculty felt was important enough to share with his direct supervisors as well as with district officials. Said Brown: “When the data reveals as clearly as this does that a program is effective, those making decisions as to the validity of curriculum must be made aware.” | | |
