The grant-funded project: For this project, Sternberger Principal Melissa Nixon partnered with A&T graduate student Kimberly Erwin to create the PDS-funded “No Family Left Behind: Building Relationships for Student Success.” The project is designed to help school personnel connect with all families, including those who live across town and may have transportation issues that keep them from visiting and becoming involved.
School personnel will develop and implement a series of workshops and information sessions – featuring food, as recommended by current research – both at the school and in the neighborhoods where the school’s newest population of students live.
The expected results: The new opportunities for communication and fellowship will lead to an increased sense of community and a more trusting, positive school climate, as well as increased student achievement and parental involvement, which will be measured by test scores and parental attendance at the scheduled events. | | |
