The grant-funded project: Melinda Woodard of the A&T Middle College faculty and Patrice Faison, a graduate of A&T’s MSA program who was serving as the School of Education’s middle college liaison, used PDS grant funds to purchase the “Classroom Performance System,” a wireless interactive system that requires students to answer questions using a hand-held remote device.
Designed to improve student performance in Algebra 1 by targeting specific concept areas where students are weak, it allows and encourages 100 percent participation by students. Since the technology makes answers anonymous, students can participate without fear of embarrassment, yet teachers can assess students’ understanding, item by item, with greater ease.
The expected results: Improved student performance in Algebra 1 should result, as well as increased classroom participation by students. Also, data collected from the system will be used to determine the effectiveness of the program. | |
