The grant-funded project: This PDS grant is giving an organization of A&T graduate students the tools they need to test the effectiveness of their service-learning project designed to engage diverse students in business and computer education.
EMPOWER is a student-led organization within the Adult Education Program at A&T. Member Patrice Scott, with support from Dr. Bernadine Chapman, faculty advisor, leads a group that assists with weekly after-school tutorials using technology purchased with grant funds, including tablet PCs, pocket PCs, digital cameras and microphones.
The expected results: The hands-on instruction students will be able to experience thanks to the increased and improved hardware, as well as the volunteer graduate student tutors, will allow them to master technology. Also, interest in business and technology courses will grow, resulting in more students being prepared to become contributing members of the surrounding area’s technical labor force. | |
