The graduate program is designed to develop competent professionals in the field of Adapted Physical Education, Sports & Exercise Psychology, and Sport Pedagogy through scholarship, advanced training and specialization. The program offers a Master of Science (M.S.) Degree in Physical Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Physical Education.

Master of Science (M.S.) Program
The M.S. Program has two options:
    1. Teacher Education Option: Open to applicants who hold a “Class A” teaching certificate in physical education

    2. Non-Teacher Education Option: Open to applicants without a “Class A” teaching certificate in physical education.

Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T) Program
The M.A.T. program is designed for college graduates who desire to obtain a “Class A” initial teaching certificate in physical education. The program has two phases:
    Phase I is for teaching certification only (27 credit hrs.)
    Phase II is the M.A.T. (12 hrs.)

    Professional Education (15 credit hours)
    Physical Education (24 credit hours)
    M.A.T. Program (39 credit hours)
    Phase I: Certification Only (27 credit hours)
    Phase II: M.A.T. (12 credit hours)

Admission Requirements
M.S. in Physical Education Program
    1. Acceptable GRE or MAT scores

    2. A 2.8 overall GPA for teacher education applicants from a four year accredited institution of higher education

    3. A 2.6 overall undergraduate GPA for non-teacher education applicants from a four year accredited institution of higher education

    4. A writing sample

    5. Three letters of reference

    6. A goal statement

M.A.T. Program
    Phase I: An undergraduate degree from an accredited four year institution of higher education, an overall cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or pass Praxis I.

    Phase II: An overall GPA of 3.0 in Phase I, “Class A” initial teaching certificate, GRE or MAT scores, and approval to advance further in the M.A.T. phase.
