Undergraduate Requirements

Teacher education candidates must become formally admitted to the Teacher Education Program by the end of the sophomore year and pass Praxis II before student teaching. Formal admittance to the Teacher Education Program requires:

• Maintaining a 2.8 grade point average
• Taking the 16 Personality Factor Inventory Text
• Participation in a formal interview
• Pass Praxis I

The Special Education Cross-Categorical Program

Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education and North Carolina Teacher licensure in grades K-12. The goal of the program is to develop professional competencies/skills for teaching the mild to moderately disabled. The interdisciplinary program requires 128 semester credit hours to complete.

The 2Plus2 Transfer Program

The 2 + 2 Transfer Program provides a seamless transition for community college students who have earned an Associate Degree to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.  Articulation agreements exist between several local community colleges and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University.  Under the auspices of this agreement, students who successfully complete the appropriate course of study leading to the associate degree and who meet the requirements for admission to the University are eligible for full status candidacy in the teacher education program.

Graduate Work

CUIN offers 2 graduate degrees:
M.A. Ed. in Elementary Education
M.S. in Instructional Technology (a 3.0 GPA is required for graduation)

M.A. Ed. in Elementary Education

Provides advanced studies in the field of elementary education commensurate with INTASC, NCATE, SDPI, and National Board Certification Standards.

Degree Requirements

• 39 Semester Hours
• Masters Research Project OR Completion of Comprehensive Portfolio
• Comprehensive Examination

Master of Science in Instructional Technology

Courses examine the theoretical and practical underpinnings of the profession and use a variety of media, science, and art of instructional planning, and the delivery of instruction in a variety of settings.

Concentration includes North Carolina licensure in:

• Media Coordinator
• Instructional Technology Specialist – Computers
• Instructional Technology Specialist – Telecommunications
• Business and Industry concentration (also taught online)
AND

Master of Arts  in Teaching

The M.A.T. is planned for the college graduate of the respective areas who seeks licensure and graduate studies in teaching grades K– 12. The proposed program will address the needs of teachers with provisional (lateral entry) or emergency licensure, teachers wishing licensure in the fields, and / or those individuals changing careers to become teachers.

The primary design of the M.A.T. program will be two-tiered.  The first tier will include all of the course work needed for “A” licensure, including an internship requirement and passing the appropriate examinations of Praxis II.  The second tier will include a research requirement and other courses that complete standards for the advanced master’s degree and will qualify the candidate for the advanced “M” licensure.
