NORTH CAROLINA AGRICULTURAL & TECHNICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL (PDS) PARTNERSHIP

The Professional Development School (PDS) concept is a teaching school that works collaboratively with the university to develop and strengthen “best practices” in teaching and teacher education. Experimentation and systematic inquiry involves faculties and students of the public school system and the university serving as a center for pre-service and continuing professional development.

Activities

Professional Development:

Professional Development is built on the premise that all constituents of the partnership should participate in professional development activities.  Preservice teachers, inservice teachers, university and college faculty, and business and corporate personnel should engage in faculty/professional development either as participants or consultants.  An individual constituent or any combination of constituents may select to begin professional development.  For example, preservice and inservice teachers may be participants in the same professional development activities, or university and college teachers, or business and corporate personnel, may all be in the same professional development activity.

Clinical Faculty

Clinical Faculty works with pre-service teacher education majors in their field-based experiences in the PDS Schools.  This individual also collaborates with university teacher education faculty and public school faculty relative to instructional presentation and assessment. For 2007-2008, Ms. Jacqueline Koonce is the clinical faculty.
