Human Resources (Agency Counseling)

 

     

 The Master of Science degree in Human Resources (Community/Agency Counseling) is a 60 credit hour non-certification program designed for the individual who is interested in a professional counseling career in a public or private community setting including higher education. This program prepares students to take the National Certified Counseling Examination and apply for licensure as a licensed professional counselor in the state of North Carolina.

Community/Agency Counseling Objectives. Students in community counseling will demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and application in:

1. the use of diagnostic resources, and the use of assessment resources appropriate for community counseling;  

2. preparing individuals for positions as community/agency counselors;  

3. the use of measurement and evaluation procedures, including outcome evaluation;

4. the use of community resources to the program and to provide direct service for clients; 

5. developing consultation skills suitable for working in community settings; 

6.  establishing and maintaining individual and group relationships consistent  with the ethical standards of the American

     Counseling Association, (ACA)

Internships: Internships I and II involve supervised professional experiences in settings appropriate to the student’s vocational objectives. The internships will provide practical work in the student’s area of specialization. Each Internship includes 300 hours of field experience. Students must complete a minimum of 120 hours of direct services with clients during each Internship.

State Certification/Licensure in Human Resources (Agency/Community Counseling)

Students are eligible to become Nationally Certified Counselors by taking the National Counselor Examination offered by the National Board of Certified Counselors prior to graduation. In addition, the North Carolina Board for Licensed Professional Counselors recognizes this exam as their licensure exam.
