Professional Development Framework
The Office of Professional Development provides intensive, research based induction and professional development support to A&T pre-service teachers and graduates during their first three years of teaching in Piedmont-Triad School Districts. The office also provides professional development support to university, school district, and community partnership activities.
Grounded in current teaching and learning research (Bloom, 1956; Carroll, 1963; Marzano, 2005; Thompson, 2004), the professional development framework focuses on three stages of instruction (pre-teaching, teaching, and post-teaching) using collaboration, modeling, and peer observation as the modes for teacher learning. In addition to bridging the gap between educational theory and practice, this program includes an urban education focus. Also, this Professional Development Model is unique because it integrates collaborative learning among elementary and secondary teachers, thus enhancing pedagogical skills for both groups.
