THE URBAN TRANSIT INSTITUTE (UTI)
A TEA-21 mandated multiple year and multimillion dollar University Transportation Center, the UTI was sponsored by USDOT through RSPA, which involved over 50 faculty researchers at NCA&TSU, MIT, NC State University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Savannah State University, and the University of Massachusetts. The theme for this multi-year contract was improving transportation performance in small urban and rural areas.
EISENHOWER TRANSPORTATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Sponsored by the National Highway Institute of FHWA, provides an education award to a few outstanding senior and graduate students who receive full tuition, a lucrative stipend, and a travel allowance to attend the Transportation Research Board Meeting in Washington, DC. Upon graduation, recent recipients studied and/or worked at the Ohio State University, Penn State University, FHWA, Battelle Institute, Union Pacific, NCDOT, Central Intelligence Agency, Defense Logistics, Kraft Foods, and Syngenta.
SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE (STI)
Funded jointly by the National Summer Transportation Institute through South Carolina State University, STC, RITA, FHWA, Dow Chemical, Wal-Mart, Caterpillar, and other partners, exposes rising junior and senior high school students to career opportunities in the transportation industry during an intensive five-week experience of college level academics, presentations/lectures, mentoring by transportation professionals, field trips, SAT preparation, and team projects.
SOUTHEASTERN TRANSPORTATION CENTER (STC)
Sponsored by RITA of USDOT and administered through the University of Tennessee, is a 10-campus consortium of southeastern universities engaged in transportation research and education. Also an TEA-21 University Transportation Center, the STC funds faculty research and student education programs, which provide the opportunity for students in the southeast to receive financial assistance, research experience, internships, co-ops, and transportation-related job placement. Employment and graduate school placements for NCA&T students have included: Penn. State Univ., University of Tenn., Mich. State Univ., Ohio State Univ., Georgia Tech, Novartis Logistics, Lowe's, Sara Lee Logistics, Cardinal Logistics, Epes Logistics, Roadway, Union Pacific Railroad, Norfolk Southern Railroad, USAirways, Dudley Products, Greensboro DOT, Wal-Mart Stores, Sears Logistics, Target Stores, Anderson Consulting, IBM, Morgan Stanley, Mercedes, Honda America, BMW, General Motors, Minn. DOT, NC DOT, Maryland DOT, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and FHWA.
ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (EDP)
Sponsored jointly by FHWA, NCDOT, the Bennington Corporation, and NCA&TSU, was designed to increase the pool of successful minority and female highway contractors. Participants receive training in project bidding, estimating, and management, payroll accounting, effective communication, computer applications, financial planning, and construction mathematics.
