Urban Transit Institute at the Transportation Institute
Director's Message
The Transportation Institute at North Carolina A&T State University (NCA&TSU), consistent with its theme, has continued to provide transportation professionals from diverse populations to the workforce.
The Institute's vision, as formulated by the former director Joyce Johnson and shared by the University community, is that the UTI will combine transportation research, education, and technology transfer by facilitating and expanding the relationship among transportation managers, state and federal transportation officials, and emerging transportation professionals.
The availability of an established interdisciplinary research unit, inclusive of faculty well-versed in research in transportation management and transportation engineering, has facilitated the implementation of the UTI theme of "increasing research and professional development among diverse populations to improve transit performance through the use of innovative management techniques and advanced technologies in rural and small urban areas."
It is envisioned that at the end of four to six years, UTI will be increasingly viewed as a resource for transit solutions in a multimodal context and a major provider for diverse populations in the workforce. The UTI at NCA&TSU will continue to engage in activities that foster education, research and technology transfer programs to enhance transportation efficiencies in small rural and urban areas.
