
The following guidelines will assist you as you in preparing
your oral and poster presentations.
- Abstracts must be submitted in Microsoft Word 2000 or
higher. If mailed the abstract must be accompanied by an
IBM compatible floppy disc. If emailed, the abstract must
be sent as an attachment.
- Abstracts may not exceed 100-words in length.
- A Student or Faculty Abstract Submission Form must be
submitted with your abstract.
Guidelines for Oral Presentations
Oral Presentations are scheduled for Friday, January 29, 2010. Oral Presentations from all disciplines are welcomed
and encouraged
The following instructions apply to all Oral Presentations:
- Limit presentations to fifteen (15) minutes. An additional
five (5) minutes will be allowed for questions and answers.
- Be prepared to respond to questions.
- Have copies of your paper or abstract available and include
your name, address, phone number and e-mail address.
- Bring your own equipment where possible and have backup
slides, handouts, etc. readily available. Overhead projectors,
laptops, and video projectors are available in limited quantities.

Guidelines for Poster Presentations
Poster presentations are scheduled for Friday, January 29, 2010. Poster Presentations from all disciplines are welcomed
and encouraged.
- Arrive thirty minutes (30) prior to your presentation
to receive instructions and to set up your poster.
- On the day of presentations, PLEASE ensure that you have
all necessary materials.
- Do not remove your poster until the end of the poster
presentation session.
- Place presentations on a standard, tri-fold presentation
board with side panels measuring 1’ X 3’, center
panel measuring 2’ X 3”.
- Ensure that your poster is readable from 3 feet away and
include a clear statement of the research question. The
title should be approximately one inch high; text should
be at least 24 point type. All parts of the poster should
be typed or computer generated.
- Indicate on your poster your mentor's name (if applicable),
department and institution on your presentation.
Presentation Evaluation Criteria
Oral and poster presentations will be evaluated within their
respective disciplines based on the following criteria:
Oral Presentations
- Depth and breadth of your knowledge of the subject matter
related to the research
- Demonstration of how interdisciplinary fields play a role
in understanding your research
- Mastery of the experimental and theoretical aspect of
the research as well as your understanding of the data
- Overall quality of research
- General Presentation: appearance, order, professionalism,
effectiveness etc.
Poster Presentations
- Depth and breadth of your knowledge of the subject matter
related to the research
- Demonstration of how interdisciplinary fields play a role
in understanding your research
- Mastery of the experimental and theoretical aspect of
the research as well as your understanding of the data
- Overall quality of research
- Visual display
- General Presentation: appearance, order, professionalism,
comprehensiveness, effectiveness etc.
The deadline for submission is January 18, 2010.
In order to have your abstract published in the Symposium
Program Proceedings, please send your abstract along with
the Abstract Submission Form to appropriate person listed
