The Director of
Health Services
manages the
Sebastian Health
Center. Medical
services are
available to all
students that have
paid the student
health fee as part
of their general
university fees.
The basic
components of the
Health Service
Program are as
follows:
- Medical
Services:
The University
Physicians are
in attendance in
the Health
Center daily
(hours for
routine
treatment are
posted) and 'On
24 Hour Call'
for any
emergency
situations.
- Nursing
Services:
Registered
nurses, under
the direction of
the Nurse
Supervisor, are
in attendance
daily to
evaluate and
treat students'
health needs and
answer any
questions
pertaining to
health problems
and other
concerns.

Laboratory
Services: A
Certified
Medical
Technologist is
on duty daily.
Monday through
Friday to
perform various
laboratory tests
as ordered by
the physician to
diagnose a
variety of
medical
problems.
- Medical
Records: The
Medical Records
Director is
responsible for
maintaining a
physically
secure and
confidential
file of all
student health
records in the
Health Center.
Additionally,
the North
Carolina State
Immunization Law
stipulates
required
vaccines must be
on file in the
medical records
department of
the Health
Center prior to
registration.
- Pharmacy
Services: A
registered
pharmacist is
available Monday
through Friday
to dispense
medication and
provide patient
teaching about
all
prescriptions
filled.
- Health
Education
Services:
Prevention
education is
available
through the
health educator
on a variety of
health
conditions. The
Health Educator
is available
Monday through
Friday to assist
students with
any health
issues or
concerns.
North Carolina
State Law requires
all graduate and
undergraduate
students taking five
or more credit hours
to submit
certification of
immunizations PRIOR
to registration.
Students will not be
permitted to
register at the
University for the
spring 2010 semester
if they have not
submitted the
required
immunization records
to the University
Health Center. All
records must have an
official seal/stamp
or physician's or
health care
provider's
signature.
The Center For
Disease Control and
the American College
Health Association
requires
certification in
accordance with the
following:
- Students
Under Age 18:
3 doses of
Polio, 2 doses
of MMR, 3 doses
of Tetanus
(within 10 years
of last DPT
series)
- Students
Under Age 30:
2 doses of
MMR, 3 doses of
Tetanus (within
10 years of last
DPT series)
- Students
Age 30 - 49:
1 dose of MMR, 3
doses of Tetanus
(within 10 years
of last DPT
series)
- Students
Age 50 And Over:
3 doses of
Tetanus (within
10 years of DPT
series)

Tuberculin Skin
Test:
International
students are
required to have
a TB skin test
and negative
result, within
the 12 months
preceding the
first day of
classes (chest
X-Ray if test is
positive)
- Physical
Examination:
Are recommended
for
undergraduate
students ONLY.,
physicals are
highly
recommended for
Nursing
students, Band
members and
student
athletes.
The Health Center
provides up-to-date
and emerging
information on
health related
issues and concerns
on a continuing
basis for the
University
community. During
hours of operation,
the clinic staff can
be reached at
336-334-7810. A
detailed voice
message is available
at the number after
hours of operation
to instruct callers
in need of services,
or for emergencies.
