Funding Your Studies Abroad


How much will study abroad cost?

This depends on the type of program you select. The most affordable way to study abroad is on an exchange program (Where can I Study Abroad?) which allows you to pay your tuition and fees here at NC A&T and exchange places with a student who pays their tuition and fees to their home institution. The additional costs associated with this type of exchange are your passport, visa and airfare. Some of these costs can be incorporated into your financial aid if you begin the process well in advance. Other programs' costs are outlined on their websites.

We encourage you to research your preferences in study abroad locations two semesters prior to your perspective departure. In so doing, research all estimated costs. The OIP staff will then work closely with you and Financial Aid to prepare you. Below are some scholarships available for students interested in studying abroad:

Freeman Scholarships for students studying in Asia

The Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-Asia) are available for undergraduates to study in East and/or Southeast Asia who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The programs provides awards of up to $5,000 per semester for students who demonstrate financial need. Priority will be given to students with no previous experience in Asia. Gilman Scholarships for Study Abroad

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institue of International Education, this program enables students who have limited financial means to participate in study abroad opportunities worldwide. The programs provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. citizen undergraduate students. To be eligible students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant. National Security Education Program (NSEP) Undergraduate Scholarships

NSEP is available for undergraduates students studying abroad except in Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. For further information please visit their website at: http://www.iie/org/nsep.

Rotary International Scholarship

The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial scholarships and grants aim to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. For additional information visit http://www.rotary.org
