    Campus Safety Update 10.31.07

The North Carolina A&T State University Police & Public Safety Department has launched a thorough investigation to solve an incident that occurred Oct. 29th. Two freshmen were attacked by three unknown assailants near Aggie Village. The twin brothers were stabbed while walking from Williams Cafeteria toward Aggie Village. The motive or the perpetrators have not been discovered at this time. The brothers were treated and released from Moses Cone Hospital.

Chancellor Stanley F. Battle, Vice Chancellor Sullivan A. Welborne Jr., and Dean of Students Judy Rashid have talked with the twins’ mother to express the University’s concern and to check on the well-being of the students. Welborne leads the Division of Student Affairs which includes professionals who provide counseling, academic and transitional support for these types of situations.

“We have made all the processes available for the family such as working with faculty, counseling and avenues of support,” Welborne said.

In order to safeguard the ongoing investigation by N.C. A&T Police, some details about the assault cannot be shared at this time. Law enforcement efforts are being geared toward solving the case and apprehending the perpetrators.

A&T continues to implement comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff on campus.

“Both University police officers and security normally patrol the cafeteria and Aggie Village areas. They are there during high peak times, and emergency telephones are located throughout the campus. In addition, the security presence is being heightened in the area between the cafeteria and Aggie Village,” Welborne said.

Further updates will be shared with the University community as the investigation unfolds and more information becomes available. Those with information regarding the assault are urged to call A&T Police at 336.334.7675.
