The North Carolina Rural Teaching Fellows Online Program seeks a diverse group of individuals from a variety of backgrounds. We want people who have demonstrated success in their academic careers and professional endeavors. We specifically seek individuals who are driven to reach the ambitious goals that they will set for their students, who are committed to lifelong learning, and who are passionate about impacting positively the lives of young people.

The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to effect change in rural classrooms and to work tirelessly to impact the academic performance of students from various socioeconomic communities.

To become a Rural Fellow in this program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  1. Prospective participants must have a baccalaureate degree from a qualifying four-year college or university

  2. Prospective participants must have graduated from their undergraduate institution with at least a 2.50 grade point average or higher

  3. The baccalaureate degree in which the prospective candidate holds must be in mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, Psychology, Sociology, or an approved field

  4. Prospective participants must teach in an elementary school or teach high school science or math in Bertie County, Lenoir County, or Greene County for a minimum of three consecutive years
The rigorous interview and selection process will require candidates to demonstrate their potential to successfully challenge, motivate, and influence their students.
