The North Carolina Rural Teaching Fellows Online Program provides an alternative route to become a high school or elementary teacher in one of the following eastern North Carolina public school districts:
  1. Bertie County Public Schools

  2. Greene County Public Schools

  3. Lenoir County Public Schools
The mission of Fellows Online Program is to recruit recent college graduates or outstanding individuals with four-year college degrees and demonstrable work experience to teach in the public school classroom. We look to these highly qualified individuals to bring to the classroom their knowledge, leadership, and record of academic and professional achievement.

This highly-selective alternative certification program will identify the most exemplary candidates to prepare them to teach critical discipline areas in the public schools, including high school mathematics, high school science, or Elementary Education.

As a participant in this program, you will join many other educators across the nation who share a commitment and passion for improving the lives and educational opportunities of young people. As a North Carolina Rural Teaching Fellow, you will enjoy a number of benefits that many other alternative licensure candidates will not, including free licensure coursework offered in a 12-month period in an online or mixed-method environment, free Praxis II licensure examination, one-to-one mentoring, and a paid professional conference.

The North Carolina Rural Teaching Fellows Program is committed to providing eastern North Carolina with a new generation of educational leaders who understand how to use appropriate assessment instruments to determine students interests and abilities, who can use these data to plan relevant, culturally responsive, and challenging instruction aligned with national and state standards for all learners, who can infuse technology within the classroom to engage and motivate students, and who can reflect on his/her practice with the intent of improving instructional delivery.
