     William C. Smiley is professor of woodwinds and electronic music.  He teaches courses in clarinet, saxophone, flute, Introduction To MIDI, Physics of Music, Electronic Music Composition and the History of Jazz.  Smiley holds membership in the Music Educators National Conference,  North Carolina Music Educators Association (Former Board Member and Higher Education Chair), and the National Association for the Study and Performance of African-American Music (Board Member). He performs as a freelance clarinetist and saxophonist, and has composed works for both electronic and acoustic musical instruments.       

     Dr.Smiley received  a bachelors degree from Jackson State University, a masters degree from the University of Illinois, and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He also studied at the University of Arizona and worked with Gary Nelson in the Timara Electronic Music Laboratory at Oberlin Conservatory.
