Mondre Moffett first emerged as a trumpeter/composer for the Moffett Family Jazz Band, performing with noted bassist and younger brother Charnett, and his father Charles, best known for his work with Ornette Coleman.  The Moffett family, playing both separately and together, have been a vital part of jazz lore for many years.  In addition to his work with the Moffett Family Jazz Band, Mondre toured extensively as a trumpeter for the Duke Ellington Orchestra.  In a tribute to Fats Navarro in the fall of 2003, Mondre was selected by Jazz Alliance International Educators to perform at New York City's "Jazz Standard" as a featured trumpet all star along side music director Jon Faddis and fellow trumpeters Tom Harrell, Jimmy Owens, Jeremy Pelt, Shawn Jones, Randy Brecker, Cecil Bridgwater, Lew Soloff, Claudio Roditi, Brian Lynch, and Clark Terry.  This trumpet summit concert received rave reviews from the national press.  As a composer of diverse works of art, Moffett has premiered and recorded a symphony for orchestra and chorus entitled "The Wishbone Suite" which featured pianist Eric lewis, member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and French hornist Dale Clevenger, member of the Chicago Symphony.

Moffett received a Bachelor of Arts degree from New College of California and a Master of Arts degree in performance and composition from New York University, having studied with Frank Foster, Jim McNeely and Marc-Antonio Consoli.  Mondre has served on the faculty at Long Island University in Brooklyn and has worked as a music educator for the New York City Department of Education.  He has been a regular clinician at summer music festivals teaching jazz trumpet and performing nightly with fellow staff members such as Delfeayo Marsalis, Donald Harrison, Larry Willis, Mulgrew Miller, Wycliffe Gordon, Steve Torre, Jeff Watts, Stanley Jordan, Kenny Drew Jr., James Williams, and Sir Roland Hanna.  Mondre Moffett is currently an Assistant Professor at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina, directing the University's jazz orchestra and teaching courses in composition and arranging, the history of black music in America, the history of jazz, and the history of gospel music.
