Dr. Henry became the Music Program Director on July 1, 2008.  He teaches Theory I, II, III & IV, Form & Analysis and the low brass studio.  He holds a B.M.E. and M.M.E. from the University of Akron in Akron, OH, and is currently working on a D.M.A. in Music Education at the University of Houston in Houston, TX

Dr. Henry is an active arranger and musician on trombone, bass trombone, piano, organ, and keyboard. He is currently a member of the Greensboro Concert Band, the Greensboro Big Band, the Mike Day Swing Machine and plays for numerous churches.

He is director/contractor/arranger/keyboardist/trombonist, of his own group, The John Henry Ensemble, which provides music for all occasions with any size group.

John Henry, Jr. has performed with the legendary Dells, the Coasters, Houston Ebony Opera Guild, Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra, Calvin Owens Blues Orchestra, Ernie Savage Revival, Conrad Johnson Big Blue Sound Big Band, Canton Symphony Orchestra, Ernie Krivda & The Fat Tuesday Big Band, and others.

Prior to joining the staff at North Carolina A. & T. State University, Dr. Henry was an Assistant Director of Bands/Jazz Ensemble Director/Low Brass Instructor at Texas Southern University in Houston, TX, General Music and Choir teacher at John Dewey & Westwood Elementary Schools in Warrensville Hts., OH, Band, Choir, and General Music at Copley-Fairlawn Middle School in Copley, OH, Band Director at Fullerton Elementary School in Cleveland, OH, and Assistant Band Director at Midpark High School in Middleburg Hts., OH

Dr. Henry is a member of Music Educators National Conference, International Association of Jazz Educators, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity and a member of the Piedmont Trombone Guild.
