To celebrate North Carolina A&T’s 2004 Homecoming, the University Galleries are proud to present The Robert E. Holmes Collection: Affirming a Legacy. Affirming a Legacy will present 44 artistic pieces from the collection of the distinguished Robert E. Holmes. Mr. Holmes is a California attorney who has worked for the recording and motion picture industries. His amazing career included working with the law firm of Paul,Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison where he provided services for such high-level projects and clients as the Andy Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes) estate and famed artist Andy Warhol. Holmes also served Motown Record Company as General Counsel, and Columbia Pictures in a dual role as Vice President of Music and Business Affairs of the Arista Music Publishing Group and Publishing for Columbia Pictures and Columbia Pictures Television.
The multicultural collection of this accomplished attorney is overflowing with works from major, groundbreaking artists of the 20 th century. African American artists such as Romare Bearden, Charles White, Beauford Delaney, Dox Thrash, Elizabeth Catlett, along with Mexican and Cuban artists such as Armando Marino, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Francisco Mora exudes diversity in color, subject matter, and culture. The University Galleries are located on the corner of Dudley and Bluford Streets at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University . Take East Market Street north from downtown and take a left on Dudley Street . Take a right on University Circle (look for a blue street sign identifying University Circle ).
