First, you must conduct research to find out about job positions, duties, salaries, and job qualifications.   If you are interested in working for a film company or television studio, watch the credit roll of a movie or program it has produced.  This way you can see all of the many positions that are available, and not just the obvious ones of producer or camera operator.  Find out about the responsibilities of these positions and see if they match your talents and interests. Your dream job may be one you never knew anything about!  Then, you should determine your career goals. If you are interested in becoming a news producer, then you should obtain an internship in the news department of a radio or television station.  Whatever your goal, make sure you internship will be a step in the right direction to reaching your goal.

Secondly, talk to former interns and alumni who can provide career information, suggestions and contacts.

Also, it is important to tell everyone you talk to about your career goals.  You never know who knows someone who can help you.

Lastly, go to job fairs, conferences and other media events to network with professionals who can assist you in obtaining an internship.
