New students may want to plan to arrive in the U.S. during a week
day (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) so that staff from the
International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) can be available for
port-of-entry inquiry assistance, if needed.
All new students, including transfer students, are REQUIRED to check-in
with the International Students and Scholars Office upon arrival at the
University. You must bring the following documents to complete your
check-in process:
·
Passport
·
Form I-20 or DS-2019
·
I-94 (Admission/Departure Form).
During check-in you will be asked to complete the Student Data Form
while copies of your documents are being made. You will receive your
welcome packet and instructions on how to receive your student health
insurance at Orientation.
Check-in Schedule
Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the two weeks
before classes start. THERE ARE NO
CHECK-INS ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. Students must report to Murphy Hall
– Room 208 for check-in.
All international students have a ‘registration hold’ on
their student account. The registration hold will be removed once the
check-in process has been completed. You will not be able to
register for classes until you have completed the check-in.
International Students are not authorized to register for classes
outside the United States. You must be present in legal F-1/J-1
status in order to complete the course registration process.
·
You must be registered for a "full
course" of study by the end of the official registration period in
order to have the SEVIS Record validated.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is extremely important that students
who have secured on-campus employment (graduate teaching/research
assistantships) complete the check-in process before classes and
employment begin. During check-in you will be informed on how to apply
for a Social Security Number
and instructions for completing the Payroll process.
